THE EFFECT OF LINE BROADENING OF MOSSBAUER RESONANT SOURCES AND ABSORBERS ON THE RESONANCE ABSORPTION

Journal Article · · Nucl. Instr. Methods
The peak resonance absorption and the width of the transmission velocity curves were calculated for Mossbauer resonant source and absorber combinations in which the source and absorber have different effective line widths. The type of line broadening considered is that due to nonuniformity in the crystalline environments of either source or absorber resonant nuclei, and it was assumed to give a Lorentz line shape. The calculations were carried out in two different approximations, one for thin and the other for thick absorbers, and these approximations found to give values for the peak resonance absorption which agree over a large range of absorber thickness. The results are presented graphically, and a procedure is suggested for their use. (auth)
