ZIG-ZAG TWINS IN ZIRCONIUM
The twinned structure in zirconium was analyzed to determine its crystallographic features. Five grains containing cross-twinning were analyzed in detail and the stress conditions for their formation are summarized. Pronounced zig-zag twinning occurs in grains so aligned to the stress axis as to place several adjacent (1121) twinning planes under large, nearly equal shear stresses. (P.C.H.)
