DECAY ASYMMETRIES OF CHARGED SIGMA HYPERONS

The quantity alpha (product of the symmetry parameter and the average polarization) was studied for rature of the d /sup +/-d and rature of the d / sup -/-d reactions that result in rying air from /sup +/ and rying air from / sup -/ decay by severpprocesses. Some 2500 events recorded in a bubble chamber filled with liquid deuterium and exposed to pion beams were measured. Results for alpha /sup +/ and alpha /sup o/ agree with other determinations while alpha /sup -/ was found consistent with zero. The average polarization for the reaction rature of the d /sup +/ + d min gave no sig rying air from /sup +/ + K/sup o/ + p proved to be negative. (D.C.W.)
