SCATTERING OF NEUTRONS BY MOLECULES WITH LARGE ENERGY TRANSFER (in Russian)

Scattering of neutrons by molecules is investigated under the assumption that the energy transferred per collision is much greater than the mean difference between the vibrational energy levels of the molecules. It is shown that in this case the expression for the differential (with respect to energy and angle) scattering cross section can be represented by a few expansion terias, which are then averaged over angular orientations of the molecule. In the approximation defined by the senior expansion term some other important scattering characteristics are also found. The formulas derived refer to arbitrary molecules. For some types of molecules the finite expressions for the scattering cross sections have been reduced to single integrals and can readily be evaluated numerically. Results of the calculations for the water molecule are presented. (auth)
