ELASTIC ELECTRON-DEUTERON SCATTERING OF WEAK MOMENTS OF TRANSFER (in French)

A charge form-factor for the deuteron is defined, by the method that Sachs has developed for the nucleon form factors. This charge form-factor is the Fourier transform of the deuteron rest charge. The relativistic expression of the electron-deuteron cross section can be written as the sum of three squares without interference terms, and has a form very similar to the Jankus' formula. The deuteron charge form-factor is calculated using deuteron wavefunctions and a practical formula for the elastic electrondeuteron scattering is obtained. The electron-deuteron elastic cross-section was measured for q/sup 2/ = 0.88 fermi/ sup -2/ (60 l ), q/sup 2/ = 1.00 fermi/sup -2/ (60, 90, 130 l ), and q/sup 2/ = 1.35 fer mi/sup -2/ (60, 110 l ). Using the wave function given by Glendenning and Kramer and the e-p elastic cross- section measured in the same laboratory the neutron charge form-factor is deduced. It is found to be positive and in agreement with the neutronelectron measurements. (auth)
