Thermal decomposition of NH/sub 4/UF/sub 7/ connected with self reduction to UF/sub 4/ was studied in the temperature range of 100 to 450 deg C. From differential thermal analysis and thermogravimetric analysis, it was found that the thermal decomposition proceeds in three steps. Decomposition products were identified by x-ray powder diffraction photographs as alpha - and BETA -UF/ sub 5/. Magnetic susceptibility measurements were also carried out in a temperature range of 186 to 295 deg K. (auth)
