RADIOLYSIS OF DIETHYL THALLIUM SULFATE IN AIR-SATURATED AQUEOUS SOLUTION (in German)

Journal Article · · Kernenergie (East Germany)
OSTI ID:4703823
Aqueous air-saturated solutions of diethyl thallium sulfate were irradiated with Co/sup 60/ gamma radiation. The chief radiolytic products were thallium(I) sulfate, hydrogen peroxide, acetaidehyde, and ethanol. In neutral 0.02N solutions the yields amounted to: G(Tl/sup +/) = 5.43 plus or minus 0.27; G(CH/sub 3/CHO) = 4.88 plus or minus 0.24; G(C/sub 2/H/sub 5/OH) = 6.4 plus or minus 1.5; and G(H/sub 2/O/sub 2/) = 2.90 plus or minus 0.15. Diethyl thallium ions were shown to be good scavengers for the primary radicals of water radiolysis. In acid solutions the yields were diminished, probably by capture of the polarons by H/sub 3/O/sup +/ ions. (tr-auth)
