SEMIQUANTITATIVE MICRODETERMINATION OF URANIUM BY MEANS OF FLUORESCENCE ON PAPER--APPLICATION TO RAPID ANALYSIS IN NATURAL WATER (in Italian)
A method for the semiquantitative microdetermination of uranium in natural waters is described. The method is based on the uv fiuorescence obtained when a salt of uranium reacts on paper with sodium triphosphate and zinc acetate. The reaction can still detect 0.001 gamma of uranium in a dilution of 1 x 10/ sup 6/ and thus is much more sensitive than the usually employed reaction with ferrocyanide. Samples of natural waters (0.4 to 10 nfl) are concentrated by evaporation onto the chromatogram. The uranium is then separated from interfering ions by ascending development with hexone-HNO/sub 3/. The time required for a determination depends on the concentration of uranium (concentration of sample) and is 45 minutes for >25 gamma /1 and 3 hr for >25 gamma /1. Since only a mineral light lamp and a hairdryer are used, the analysis can be carried out in the field. (auth)
