Hittorf-type transference experiments on the molten system LiCl-KCl are reported. In spite of the varying cation mobilities, they were found to be similar at all concentrations. The literature was reviewed for all data on relative mobilities of like-charged ions in binary fused salt mix tures. Some of the systems reviewed are LiCl-KCl, AgNO/sub 3/- NaNO/sub 3/, AgNO/sub 3/ -- AgCl, PbCl/sub 2/- KCl, etc. The data are generally consistent with the hypothesis that the mobilities of like-charged ions are equal within 10 to 15% at all concentrations. (D.L.C.) The solubllity of corundum was measured in sodium hydroxide and in sodium carbonate solutions from about 400 to 600 deg at pressures up to about 2800 bars. In sodium hydroxide, the solubility was independent of pressure but dependent almost linearly on base concentration up to 10 m NaOH. In sodium carbonate, the solubility depended almost linearly on pressure up to about 1370 bars beyond which it was almost independent of pressure. The solubility in Na/sub 2/CO/sub 3/ depended almost linearly on base concentration up to 4.3 m beyond which it was independent of base. The temperature coefficient of solubility was large in Na/sub 2/CO/sub 3/ and nearly zero in NaOH. The solubility in LiOH, KOH, CsOR, K/sub 2/CO/sub 3/, Cs/sub 2/CO/ sub 3/, and several other mineralizers is reported. The solubility data suggest that in (OH)- the predominant species is (AlO/sub 2/)/sup -/ or (AlO/sub 3/)/sup 2-/ while several species are present in (CO/sub 3/)/sup 2-/.
