Greases having enhanced thermal, mechanical, and radiation stability for lubricating moving parts associated with nuclear reactors are patented. The grease consists of a base oil thickened to a grease consistency with a bentoniteamine complex and containing a dispersion of carbon black. The amount of the bentonite-amine complex should be from 10 to 20% by weight of the total composition, and the ratio of carbon black to bentonite-amine complex should be from 1: 1 to 1: 20. The grease is prepared by stirring the bentonite-amine complex with the base oil at a temperature from 210 to 250 deg F, then adding the carbon black, cooling the mixture, and milling it to the required grease consistency.
