CONCENTRATION OF DEUTERIUM IN SNOW LAYERS IN THE ANTARCTIC (in French)

Journal Article · · Annales de Geophysique (France)
OSTI ID:4702288

During the Victoria Land Traverse (Antarctica) about 130 samples of snow and glacier ice were collected. Analysis on precipitations lead to a relation between temperature of formation and deuterium content. This relation was used as the base of typical features of the antarctic troposphere to distinguish the seasonal layers of glacier ice. The deuterium content of deposits was then related on the mean annual temperatures in different stations. Several possible applications oi the findings are discussed. (C.H.)
