PHOTODISINTEGRATION OF He$sup 3$

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Letters
The 90 deg differential cross sections for the He/sup 3/( gamma ,p)d photodisintegration were measured for photon energies of 8.5 to 22 Mev. Total cross sections calculated from the differential cross sections did not agree with cross sections based on Gaussian or pure exponential wave functions for He/sup 3/. Irving's wave function with an appropriate size parameter gave a good fit to the data. The rms nuclear radius calculated with this function agreed well with experimental results while a calculated nuclear form factor was too large. The photodisintegration cross section apparently is were sensitive to nuclear size. (D.C.W.)
