Since 1959 the Euratom Commission has concluded association contracts for research world in the field of plasma physics with fine authorities: CEA (France). CNEN (Italy), FOM (Holland), as well as with the Institute for Plasma Physics and the Julich Nuclear Research Establishment (Germany). Work with magnetic bottles is in progress at Saclay and Fontenay-aux-Roses in France as well as in Amsterdam and Jutphaas, Holland. Linear-Zpinch experiments will be undertaken in Arnhem, Holland. Toroidal equilibrium states are being investigated theoretically- and experimentally at Fontenay-aux-Roses. The commonest arrangement in Europe is the Theta-pinch: CARIDDI at Frascati, Italy, Hard-Core-Pinch MEST at Fontenay-aux-Roses, and a magnetic field rotating in a toroidal discharge on the plasma surface at Jutphaas. In addition, by means of the MIRAPI and MAFIN experiments, an attempt is being made in France to achieve an extremely dense and hot plasma which is however only partially enclosed. (auth)
