DEVICE PLACED IN A PRESSURE RESISTANT CONTAINER OF A NUCLEAR REACTOR AND SERVING FOR THE REDUCTION OF VAPOR PRESSURE DEVELOPED DUE TO A BURST IN THE PRIMARY CIRCUIT

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4701392
In a pressure-resistant container which encloses the reactor pressure vessel, the biological shielding and the primary circuit, a device is provided for the reduction of the vapor pressure developed due to a burst in the primary circuit. This device comprises spaces filled with cold water through which is led at least a portion of the developed vapor. Suitably said container is divided by a horizontal wall into a lower compartment comprising the reactor and the primary circuit and an upper compartment in which cold water forms a pool with a free surface. This dividing wall has a plurality of apertures closed in such a manner that they open only when a relatively high compression arises in the lower compartment. Preferably the reactor installation has an auxiliary condenser, the cooling coils of which are placed in said water pool. (NPO)
