DEVICES FOR COOLING THE CONTROL RODS OF NUCLEAR REACTORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4700755
Patented cooling tubes and valves for reactor control rods are described, which regulate the flow of coolant as a function of the position of the rods in the reactor. The cross-sectional diameter of each control-rod tube increases from the inlet end, so that the control rod is in the part of the tube with maximum diameter when the rod is fully inserted in the reactor core. Coolant fluid is forced through the tubes under pressure. A valve is mounted with fixed relation to the control rod and controls the flow of coolant in the channel with respect to control rod position in the core. (M.P.G.)
