It is shown that the fundamental equations for twodimensional steady flows of an inviscid, compressible. perfectly conducting gas with aligned magnetic fieid are reduced to the corresponding ones without magnetic field by making use of a suitable transformation. In the hodograph plane of these reduced variables, characteristics, a family of exact solutions, and shock relations are studied in a way similar to the case of ordinary hydrodynamics. Numerical calculations are made for the spiral flow. The shock polar equation is also obtained, with special reference to a few typical shock waves characteristic to magnetohydrodynamics.
