RELATIVISTIC CORRECTIONS FOR THE SMALL-ANGLE THEORY OF MULTIPLE SCATTERING (in German)

A relativistic correction of the multiple scattering distribution of charged particles at small angles was derived previously (Z. Naturforsch., 15a: 1090(1960)). The numerical evaluations of the correction function are given in tabular form. The results obtained by Hanson et al. for scattering distributions on gold foils were compared with the theoretical results obtained with the relativistic correctors. The results show for scattering angles under 20 deg the theoretical and experimental results disagree by only a few percent, but if one assumes an error of absolute calibration of less than 5%, the deviations from the measuring point are several percent higher. Use of the correction factors causes a marked improvement of the Moliere theory of multiple scattering. (J.S.R.)
