NEUTRON SCATTERING BY AN ANHARMONIC CRYSTAL

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D
Baym's treatment of coherent scattering of slow neutrons by a crystal is examined and modified to include effects due to the cubic-anharmonic term in the lattice potential to second order in the coupling constant. Corrections to the Debye-Waller factor and to the onephonon'' resonance peak are obtained, which appear to be negligible ( approximately 0.01%) for the case of a Bravais lattice and certainly <1% in other cases.
