The purpose of the meeting presentation is for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to provide an up-to-date status of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) Compliance Criteria rulemaking (40 CFR part 194). The final rule cleared the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) review process, pursuant to Executive Order 12866, in January 1996. The rule was signed by the EPA Administrator and subsequently published in the Federal Register on February 9, 1996 (61 FR 5224-5245). This summary will discuss, in general terms, the rulemaking process and the contents of the final rule.
