Improvement in FRITTOXAL Technology with a View to Nuclear Applications-- Properties of the Materials Studies; AMELIORATION DE LA TECHNOLOGIE DU FRITTOXAL EN VUE DES APPLICATIONS NUCLEAIRES PROPRIETES DES MATERIAUX ETUDIES

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4696227
Some improvements of the semi-finished products quality by a special degassing thermal treatment on FRITTOXAL (then named FRITTOXAL B) are a decrease of the residual gas content and consequently, better high temperature (600 deg C) stability and welding properties. Some important characteristics of 120-20 B and 50-10 B preselectionned for the fabrication of fuel element tubes are: mechanical properties, creep, and hot stability; and also these of the grade 20-7 B preselectionned for the fabrication of pressure tubes. A very large dispersion of the results is attributed to the nonhomogeneity of the powders. Actual tolerances obtained in the fabrication of fuel element and pressure tubes are given. Influence of annealing on the properties, anisotropy of the semi-finished products properties, and influence of thermal cycling on the mechanical properties are reported. (auth)
