CHARACTERIZATION OF URANIUM DIOXIDE POWDERS. Final Report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4696156

The physical and chemical properties of uranium dioxide powders are correlated with ceramic activity of the pellets. The following properties are investigated: bulk and tap density, surface area, Fisher sub-sieve size, oxygen to uranium ratio, oxidation temperature, particle size determination of the raw oxide, and particle size determination on the pressed and repulped uranium dioxide powder. The properties show a general correlation with sinterability. The test results of particle size determination by sedimentation analysis on pressed and repulped oxides are the most consistent in predicting the final sintered density. (N.W.R.)
