PHASE TRANSFORMATION AT HIGH TEMPERATURES IN HAFNIA AND ZIRCONIA

Journal Article · · Science See Saiensu

Phase transformation curves for HfO/sub 2/ and ZrO/sub 2/ were made. Transformation hysteresis is discussed. The trans formation of monoclinic to tetragonal as temperature increases occurs over the range 1000 deg to 1200 deg C in ZrO/sub 2/, and 1500 deg to 1600 deg C in HfO/sub 2/. With decreasing temperature the transition back to monoclinic occurs from 970 deg to 750 deg C in ZrC/sub 2/ and 1550 deg to 1450 deg C in HfO/sub 2/. These transformations have been visually observed in ZrO/sub 2/, but not in HfO/sub 2/. (auth)
