BS>An elotron, which is a magnetic spectrometer utilizing the recoil electrons knocked out of a thin target by the rays, was used to determine the relative intensities of lines in Ga/sup 72/. The resolution of the instrument was high (a relative halfwidth of 1% for 1.5-Mev rays, and 1.8% for 0.6-Mev rays), but about 2 to 6 curies of Ga/sup 72/ were required for an analysis because of the low counting efficiency due to the small solid angle subtended by the source. A 0.72 gram sample of Ga/sub 2/O/sub 3/ was irradiated 15 to 25 hours at a neutron flux of about 5 x 10/sup 13/ neutrons cm/sup -2/ sec/ sup -1/ to obtain the necessary activity. The ratio of intensities of 835- and 2205-kev lines was used to determine the activity of Ga/sup 72/ in the source. The energies of the lines were known to 0.2% by calibrating the instrument with the 411kev line of Au/sup 198/, the 661-kev line of Cs/sup 137/, the 890- and 1118-kev lines of Sc/sup 46/, the 1172- and 1332-kev lines of Co/sup 60/, and the 1368- and 2754-kev lines of Na/sup 24/. The relative intensities and energies of the rays of Ga are tabulated, and compared with the data of Mitchell et al. in Phys. Rev., 1645A(1955), and the data of Kraushaar et al. in Phys. Rev., were detected due to the improved resolution of the instrument. (TTT)
