GAS DISCHARGE APPARATUS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4694847
ABS>A toroidal pulsed discharge chamber is described that contains a high-resistivity corrugated toroidal liner. On the outside of the liner, and within the grooves formed by the corrugations, are situated Cu current-carrying rings. Thus when a disruptive axial magnetic field between the liner and the chamber wall begins to penetrate into the volume enclosed by the liner. the changing magnetic field sets up a current in the Cu rings, and this current in turn produces a magnetic field that tends to oppose the original magnetic field. The Cu rings thus reduce the leakage of any external axial magnetic fields into the discharge chamber. (T.F.H.)
