CALIBRATION OF CONTROL RODS USING THE ROD DROP METHOD

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4694562
The validity of an approximate formula used for computation of the flux decay in terms of reactivity, when a control rod is suddenly dropped into a reactor is discussed. It is shown that in many cases more accurate calculations must be made. An iterative procedure for calculating the decay of the flux, is described and developed to the point where it can be programmed for a digital computer. A machine programme based on this method is described. Tables, based on six groups of delayed neutrons, are given, that permit determination of the reactivity of the control rod from the behavior of the flux after the rod drop. (auth)
