Methods for the storage and disposal of radioactive wastes are reviewed. The need for ultimate disposal methods is stressed. The feasibility of disposal in oceans and in land masses is discussed. Methods for the fixation of radioactivity in stable, solid media described include pot calcination, fluid bed calcination, radiant heat spray drying, rotary ball mill calcination, adsorption on clay-type minerals, and incorporation into glasses or glass-like matrices. Cost factors for the various waste disposal methods are considered. (C.H.)
