A conventional gas-flow beta proportional counter combined with a plastic phosphor anti-coincidence umbrella provides a way for measuring radiation from both weak and intense beta sources. The flow counter includes an ionization chamber with a conducting coating on its inner surface to act as the cathode and a loop anode. Coaxial cable is used to establish the potential between the electrcdes. A light sensitive device monitors signals from the chamber and scintillator and converts them into electrical signals.
