SOME CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE STUDY OF VINYL POLYMERIZATION IN THE CRYSTALLINE STATE

Journal Article · · J. Polymer Sci., Pt. C

Results obtained with radiation-induced post-polymerizations of crystalline acrylamide and acrylic or methacrylic acid salts are reviewed. Some preliminary results with the spontaneous thermally initiated polymerization of crystalline p-acetamidostyrene and p-benzamidostyrene are presented. Observations of some organic reactions, other than polymerizations, which also seem to proceed in the crystalline state are described. The results obtained with solidstate polymerizations are discussed in terms of the nature of the propagating species, the interpretation of the kinetic pattern, and the role of the monomer crystal lattice.
