A STABLE AND NONITERATIVE SOLUTION TO THE DISCRETE ORDINATES EQUATIONS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4693709
A procedure for obtaining non-iterative and stable solutions to the discrete ordinates equations approximating the one-dimensional transport equation is described. The system of equations is transformed into a set of coupled matrix equations identical in form to the P1 equations. An appropriate substitution gives equations for three variables that can be solved non- iteratively. The case of slab geometry is particularly examined. The solution as discussed has been programmed in FORTRAN. (D.C.W.)
