A DOUBLE-FOCUSING MASS SPECTROMETER WITH INHOMOGENEOUS MAGNETIC FIELD AND TOROID CONDENSER (in German)

The principles, construction, and first tests of a magnetic spectrometer consisting of a magnetic sector field between conical pole shoes (n = 0.889) and a toroid condenser are described. A photographic series shows the dependence of the image properties of the spectrometer on the grounding of the deflected voltage. The fulfilling of the double-focusing conditions could be demonstrated. For an object gap of 0.14 mm width the theoretical resolution possibility was 10,000, for the 0.014 mm gap width in the described preliminary experiments a resolution possibility of about 50,000 was found.
