UNIVERSAL TYPE OF BLOCK FOR A GEIGER-MULLER COUNTER

Journal Article · · Uch. Zap., Rizhsk. Politekhn. Inst.
OSTI ID:4693571
A new construction of the block for Geiger-Muller glass counters (GC) was developed. The construction complies with requirements for high sensitivity, stability of operation, and accuracy of measurements. The side surfaces of the counters are properly protected with a lead shield (5 cm of Pb). In addition, the background level is lowered to 180 imp/min. The block has a series of advantages that permit varying the number and the type of GC and the magnitude of the body angle; use of a minimum Pb with each GC, which prolongs its life and increases the stability of operation; and the attainment of optimum characteristics of the GC.
