A comparison between nil ductility temperature (NDT) and crack arrest data from many tests on thick low-carbon pressure vessel steels shows that the (NDT + 60 un. Concent 85% F) value is similar to, but somewhat more optimistic than, the Robertson isothermal crack arrest criterion. The NDT value shows slightly worse correlation with the isothermal temperature (95% confidence estimate 450 deg C in a 25 un. Concent 85% C) than does the Charpy 25% fibrosity temperature ( 450 deg C in a 20 un. Concent 85% C). For the steels examined, NDT showed reasonable correlation with the Charpy 25% criterion but poorer correlation with the 35 ft-lb temperature. (auth)
