CONTROL OF THE BLOWDOWN AIR SUPPLY FOR THE TORY II-C NUCLEAR RAMJET ENGINE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4693349
An analysis of the blowdown air supply for the Tory II-C experimental nuclear ramjet engine was conducted with emphasis on characteristics important in the design of controls. The blow-down control for the Tory II-C operations was designed using an approximaiion of the process inverse in an open loop computer which was combined with corrective feedback loops to control the weight flow and temperature of air delivered to the reactor. A method of extending the control capability to include the simulation of reactor iniet conditions during the launch of nuclear powered missiles is described. The analysis, design, and description of the expected performance are based on an analog computer model of the blowdown system. (auth)
