THE RELATIVE INTENSITIES OF Ir$sup 194$ $gamma$-RAYS IN THE ENERGY REGION OF 860 TO 2130 Kev (in Russian)

A 2 to 2.2 g sample of Ir metal was mixed with 1.3 g of graphite, and irradiated at a flux of 5 x 10/sup 13/ to 1 x 10/sup 14/ neutrons cm/sup -2/ sec/ sup -1/. Four samples each containing 20 to 30 curies were prepared. The relative intensities of the gamma lines were obtained by investigating the spectrum of photoelectrons on a double-focusing electron spectrometer with a spectral sensitivity known to 4% in the region of 1150 to 2150 kev. A total of 23 gamma lines were found that included a 1569 kev gamma line decaying with a haif life of 18 450 deg C in a 4 hrs. The energies and relative intensities of the Ir/sup 194/ gamma lines were compared with those found by Johns and Nablo in Phys. Rev., 96: 1599(1954) and by Kern et al. in J. Nucl. Phys., and Nablo than with those of Kern et al. The multipolarities of the gamma transitions from the 1671, 1622, and 1512 kev levels in Ir/sup 194/ to the 328 and 628 levels in Pt/sup 184 were determined. The multipolarities of the transitions from the 1671 and 1512 kev levels to the lower 2/sup +/ level are of the type E2 + Ml. The translations from the 1622 level contain some EO type. (TTT)
