ISOTOPE EXCHANGE BETWEEN H$sub 2$S AND SULFIDES

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:4692856

Isotope exchange between gaseous H/sub 2/S and sulfide crystals was investigated using S/sup 35/. The activity in the gas phase was measured with a special counter tube using a molybdenum wire as anode. The isotope exchange between the liquid and gas phase was studied for CdS, PbS, and FeS. For simple crystals of CdS no isotope exchange could be detected. For powdered CdS an exchange was observed for temperatures between 200 and 500 deg C. Experiments with PbS gave similar results. With single crystals of FeS an exchange was detected between 200 and 500 deg C. This can be explained by a sulfur uptake of the lattice. (Gmelin Inst.)
