TRANSIENT RADIATION EFFECTS INSTRUMENTATION TECHNIQUES

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4692314
A detailed description is given of generally applicable techniques for transient radiation effects testing and data analysis and of the evaluation of these techniques. The Kukla pulse reactor and the Boeing flash x-ray facilities were used to simulate a nuclear weapon burst. The topics discussed are: equipment for remote operation at the Kukla reactor, signal perturbations in transmission lines, basic rules for the tests, lead and paraffin shields for altering the neutron-to-gamma ratio at Kukla, a cathode follower circuit for impedance matching to signal transmission lines, balanced cable techniques, current probe and its radiation response, data reduction, and evaluation of TIMM devices.
