A chemico-spectrographic method, which is based on chemical concentration of impurities and subsequent spectrographic analysis, is suggested for determining metal impurities in niobium. The method includes bringing metallic niobium into solution by oxidating the sample to niobium pentoxide, which is then dissolved in sulfuric acid. It can be carried out in a quartz vessel. Impurities are concentrated by separating niobium from a sulfuric acid medium by extraction with a tributylphosphate solution in benzene. During the spectrographic analysis of the concentrated powder on the strontium sulfate base 15 elements can be determined simultaneously by means of a single spectrogram. Due to separation of niobium and concentration of the impurities the interference of the complex niobium spectrum is eliminated and the sensitivity of determination of all the elements is increased.
