THE RADIOLYSIS OF CYCLOHEXANE. IV. THE EFFECT OF SOLUTES ON THE RADIOLYSIS OF LIQUID CYCLOHEXANE (in Japanese)

Journal Article · · Nippon Kagaku Zasshi (Japan) Formerly Nippon Kagaku Kaishi (1921- 47) Merged with Kogyo Kagaku Zasshi to form Nippon Kagaku Kaishi

The effect of the addition of vanlous solutes, such as iodine, aromatic and olefinic compounds, and acetylene, on the gamma radiolysis of liquid cyclohexane was investigated by measuring the yield of hydrogen and in some cases those of hydrogenated compounds of the solutes. Addition of solutes decreases G(H/sub 2/) from cyclohexane in the orders; benzene > and ethylene > propylene > acetylene > isobutene. The orders correspond to those of the ability in the radical scavenging. When unsaturated lower hydrocarbons were used as solutes, the hydrogenated compounds of the solutes were detected by gas chromatography, which are considered to be produced by scavenging H atoms.
