COMPARATIVE MEASUREMENTS OF YIELDS OF D-D NEUTRONS FROM DIFFERENT TARGETS
The study of the conditions on a neutron generator of 200 kev was undertaken to obtain the maximal neutron flux. As targets, heavy ice, copper bombarded with deuterons, and a Ti-D foil were used. A steady maximal total flux with the heavy ice target was 2.9 x 10/sup 8/ sec/sup -1/ (7.3 x 10/sup 5/ sec/ sup -1/ mu a/sup -1/) while the values obtained with the self-formed D target on copper foil and with the Ti-D target were 2.7 x 10/sup 7/ sec/sup -1/ (1.7 x 10/ sup 5/ sec/sup -1/ mu a/sup -1/) and 1.5 x 10/su p 8/ sec/sup -1/ (3.3 X 10/sup 5/ sec/sup -1/ mu a/sup -1) respectively. The neutron yield is given as a function of the parameters: energy and current of incident deuterons, time of condensation of heavy ice before bombardment, time of bombardment, and the flow of heavy water vapors.
