RADIO NOISE ANOMALIES IN AUGUST 1958
Journal Article

Comparison of radio noise data for August 1958 with those for later years shows that the Johnston Island nuclear explosions on August 1 and 12, 1958, affected the atmospheric radio noise over a wide area in the Pacific region. Graphs of the midnight noise level at several frequencies from 13 kc/s to 5 Mc/s illustrate apparent noise anomalies at Cook, Australia; Ohira, Japan; Byrd Station, Antarctica; and Singapore. These anomalies resemble in several respects the well-marked effects previously noted at Kekaha, Hawaii. (auth)
