TO DETERMINE THE EFFECT OF IRRADIATION UPON THE WHOLESOMENESS OF FOOD. Progress Report No. 15, September 1962-March 1963

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4689312

Preliminary studies on rats fed a diet containing 45% irradiated beef showed that weight gain was greater and food conversion was better for rats fed nonirradiated beef than for those fed irradiated beef. The hemorrhagic syndrome in rats was overcome by the addition of vitamin K to the ration. Diets containing irradiated beef or irradiated flour had no significant detrimental effects on growth, feed conversion, fertility, or lactation in dogs during a 2-yr period. (C.H.)
