NEUTRON SCATTERING BY MOLECUALR SYSTEMS (in Polish)

Journal Article · · Postepy Fizyki (Poland)
OSTI ID:4688719
The field of scattering of slow neutrons by hydrogenous compounds of a variety of molecular structures is reviewed The compounds that comprise the molecular systems covered are discussed separately according to the categories solids, liquids, and gases. Experimental and theoretical determinations of neutron scattering cross sections include total cross sections, differential angular cross sections, and double-differential energy and angular cross sections. The neutron energy region that is treated ranges from tens of milli-electron volts to tens of electron volts, the region of importance from the point of view of molecular binding and excitation of the rotational and vibrational levels of the molecular structure. The salient features of the theoretical background are given, followed by a discussion of experimental methods of measurement. A comparison of theory and measurement for gas molecules molecular systems in liquids, and molecular systems in solids is discussed. (TTT)
