THE DETERMINATION OF RADIORUTHENIUM

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4688291
Exchange was established between radioruthenium and ruthenium carrier in a hot solution to which potassium periodate and potassium persulfate had been added. After cooling and acidifying the solution, Ru was extracted from it into carbon tetrachloride. The Ru was recovered from the organic phase by precipitating a lower oxide with methanol. The precipitate was dissolved in dilute acid and by adding Mg powder Ru metal was precipitated, and then counted; the chemical yield was determined by weighing. Alternatively, the lower oxide was precipitated in the presence of borax and the mixed solids were mounted and counted; the chemical yield was determined absorptiometrically after dissolving the source.
