Cross sections for the reactions Y/sup 89/(p,n)Zr/sup 89m/, Y/sup 89/ (p,n) Zr/sup 89g/, Pr/sup 141/(p,n) Nd/sup 141m/, Pr/sup 141/(p,n)Nd/sup 141g/, Au/sup 197/(p,n)Hg/sup 197m/ and Au/sup 197/(p,n)Hg/sup 197m/ are measured with the purpose of studying the mechanism of nuclear reactions for incident particle energies ranging from the threshold of the (p,n) reaction up to 20 Mev. The ratios of the cross sections for production of isomer and ground states in (p,n) reactions are discussed under the assumption that the compound nucleus mechanism is involved. (auth)
