The manufacture of fuel elements by piling up a number of ceramic fuel pellets in a tubular jacket, followed by hydrostatically pressing the jacket against the core is described. In order to prevent irregularities due to mutual shifting of the pellets during the pressing operation it is proposed to apply cylindrical pellets, the end surfaces of which are shaped as male and female truncalted cones, adjacent pellets thus fitting snugly into each other. Various shapes and dimensions of these pellets are given. They are manufactured by the method of compressing and sintening. (NPO)
