Liquid smallpox vaccine inactivated by gamma irradiation proved to be fully adequate for studying the effects of gamma irradiation on the viability of microorganism artificially added to it. The complete inactivation of Staphylococcus albus and Bacillus subtilis, which most frequently contaminate smallpox vaccine, occurs by gamma irradiation from Co/sup 60/ ranging from 900,000 to 1.5-million r doses at 47 impulses/second magnitude.
