The photoproduction of pseudoscalar mesons is considered from the viewpoint of unitary symmetry. Properties of Lie groups are reviewed; irreducible representations of the 8 x 8 product space of a baryon and a meson are constructed (basis vectors are given); and relations between the various photoproduction amplitudes are formed. Expressions for the cross sections are developed and examined, and relations for the photoproduction amplitudes in the Sakata Model are found. (D.C.W.)
