COMPATIBILITY OF PbTe AND BiGeTe WITH POTENTIAL CLADDING AND INSULATING MATERIALS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4686573

The compatibility of lead telluride and/or bismuth germanium telluride with the following potentiai cladding materials was studied from 500 to 700 l C: low carbon steel, AISI 304 and 430 stainless steel, aluminum, nickel, chromium, Zircaloy-2, vanadium, molybdenum, tungsten, niobium, Inconel, beryllium, and Armco iron. Also, the compatibility of lead telluride with the following potential insulating materials was studied from 550 to 750 l C: AlSiMag 222, Supramica 620, Synthamica 202, and alumina. Lead telluride is compatible with Armco iron, beryllium, molybdenum, AISI 430 and 304 stainless steels, and low carbon steel at 650 and 700 l C. It is similarly compatible with AlSiMag 222, Supramica 620, Synthamica 202, and alumina at 750 l C. Bismuth germanium telluride is compatible with tungsten, aluminum, molybdenum, and vanadium at 600 l C and with tungsten and aluminum at 650 l C. (auth)
