DETERMINATION OF THE RADIOIODINE NOT ACCUMULATED BY THE THYROID IN THE NECK REGION FOR INITIAL TEST OF THE THYROID GLAND FUNCTION (in German)

Journal Article · · Strahlentherapie (West Germany)
OSTI ID:4686328
To determine the radioiodine uptake of the thyroid gland, measurements of the gamma radiation that can be detected in front of the neck area were done. The scintillation counter detected not only the radiation that originated in the thyroid gland but also gamma rays originating from radioiodine in the blood and in the neck tissue. The influence of the counting rate is more important the shorter the time interval between the application of the radioiodine and the uptake determination. It is shown that as a routine diagnostic test the determination of an individual NAR can be neglected. The knowledge of the average value seems to be sufficient. (P.C.H.)
