A method of recovering U values from a fluoride slag of a reducing metal, such as Mg, is patented. The slag is treated with a mixed aqueous solution of either the nitrates or sulfates of Al and Na. This brings the slag into solution as sodium aluminum fluoride along with the metal and uranyl salts corresponding to the Al and Na salts used. Sodium aluminum fluoride is soluble in aqueous Al salt solutions. U can be recovered from the solution by solvent extraction or ion exchange. (M.P.G.)
